GED (General Educational Development)
What is GED?
The GED is a high school equivalency test. It’s designed for individuals who did not complete traditional high school but want to earn a credential equivalent to a high school diploma.
Subjects Tested
The GED covers four subject areas:
- Mathematical Reasoning
- Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA)
- Social Studies
- Science
Format & Duration
- Taken on a computer (some exceptions allow paper tests).
- Total testing time: ~7.5 hours (across all 4 subjects).
- Multiple-choice, drag-and-drop, short answer, and essay (Extended Response).
Scoring
- Each subject: 100–200 points.
- Passing score: 145 per subject.
- Scores above 165 may indicate “college-ready” performance.
Recognition
- Accepted as a high school equivalency diploma in the USA and many other countries.
- Used for college admissions, vocational training, and job applications.
